South Australian Skills Commission Endorsement principles

A South Australian Skills Commission endorsed micro-credential provides businesses and individuals with confidence that the course can deliver the contemporary skills required by industry.

South Australian Skills Commission Endorsement is determined based on the course’s alignment with the following five principles:

  1. An industry-recognised skills gap that cannot be met through current nationally accredited training systems.
  2. Certification of a person’s learning outcomes, including skills and competencies that reflect elements of licensing and other regulatory requirements (local, national and international) or contemporary industry practices.
  3. Assessment of learning outcomes include core transferable skills and core job-specific skills required for job roles as identified by industry.
  4. Supports people to adapt to changing job roles and workplaces, and/or to transition to a new industry.
  5. Supports pathways between the school, vocational education and higher education sectors, and can provide a pathway to accredited courses.

All micro-credentials include a statement of purpose, learning outcomes and evidence of current or anticipated need by industry, employers or the community.

The outcomes and impact of the program are subject to evaluation at the end of the pilot.

Introduction to Naval Shipbuilding Micro-credential will help prepare for employment in the Defence Industry.

This course will expose learners to naval shipbuilding industry and terminology and to prepare potential naval shipbuilding employees with an understanding of naval shipbuilding products, process, and people.

The course consists of the following seven non-accredited subjects and can be delivered via face to face or self-paced online. It is anticipated that each subject would take either 16 hours face to face training and assessment or over 4 weeks for self-paced learning:

  1. Importance of Naval Shipbuilding in the Mission of the RAN
  2. Naval Ships and the Shipbuilding Industry
  3. Understanding the Customer and End User
  4. Making Sense of the Naval Shipbuilding Industry

Introduction to Combat Systems Engineering

The Introduction to Combat Systems Engineering micro-credential is a skill set that meets the unique needs of Naval Shipbuilding programs in South Australia. This micro-credential will be offered through the Naval Shipbuilding College as a part of its registered learning packages to support the shipbuilding industry.

The Introduction to Combat Systems Engineering micro-credential consists of the following four (4) non-accredited modules. It will focus on providing students with both theory and practical training in the Combat Systems. The Introduction to Combat Systems Engineering micro-credential will be delivered and assessed over 75 hours via online or face to face learning.

  • Module 1 – The Context
  • Module 2 – Core Processes
  • Module 3 – Specialties
  • Module 4 – Technology Domains.

The Introduction to Combat Systems Engineering micro-credential can be delivered in modules over a three-month period, or as an intensive course over two weeks depending on the characteristics of the target group.

Course in Prefabricated Light Gauge Steel Frame Installation

The Course in Prefabricated Light Gauge Steel Frame Installation micro-credential aims to address the industry skill gaps specific to light gauge steel frame installers. This course is suitable for apprentice or trainees, job seekers and workers changing industries, reskilling to perform changing job tasks or upskilling to progress their career. Graduates of this course will be able perform a job role of prefabricated light gauge steel frame installer or light gauge steel frame component assembly (in factory).

The course consists of two units of competency and one non-accredited subject:

  1. CPCCWHS2001 - Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry
  2. CPCCCM2012 - Work safely at heights
  3. Install prefabricated light gauge steel frame (non-accredited industry subject) (120 hours).

Participants are required to have minimum language, literacy and numeracy skills that are equivalent to Level 3 of the Australian Core Skills Framework.

The course will be delivered by Registered Training Organisations in classroom and simulated workplace environments to prepare participants for working on-site. Participants will have hands-on experience working with the steel components and tools.

Trauma Informed Education and Care

The Trauma Informed Education and Care micro-credential will enable workers from the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) sector to identify and apply skills and knowledge to create trauma-informed environments which support children in education and care settings, as well as develop well-being supports for educators.

At the end of this Micro-credential, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the impacts of stress and trauma on children’s brains, bodies and behaviours.
  • Respond to children using a trauma-informed approach.
  • Create trauma informed environments which support children including routines, transitions and interactions.
  • Implement strategies to benefit their personal well-being.

The Trauma Informed Education and Care micro-credential consists of five non- accredited industry subjects:

1. Introduction to trauma-informed practice.

2. Exploring attachment/ regulation.

3. Understanding children’s behaviour/ exploring emotional literacy.

4. Creating trauma/ informed transition/ creating a trauma-informed care environment.

5. The importance of Educator well-being.

The micro-credential will be delivered and assessed over 41 hours (one day a week for 6 weeks) face-to-face, with the possibility of online delivery if required.

The Trauma Informed Education and Care micro-credential is targeted at upskilling educators in the Early Childhood and Education sector, or new workers entering the sector. Participants should have access to an early childhood environment, such as a childcare centre, OSHC, family day care, or another environment approved by the provider.

MATES Life Skills Toolbox

The MATES Life Skills Toolbox micro-credential is designed to ensure young people entering the construction and allied industries are taught resilience and practical life skills. It is suitable for first year of apprentice (17 -24 years of age) within the Construction industry.

The course consists of six industry subjects:

  1. Communication (2.5 hours)
  2. Financial Literacy (2.5 hours)
  3. Values and beliefs (2.5 hours)
  4. Suicide awareness and prevention (MATES Connector Training) (2.5 hours)
  5. Mental health and Alcohol and other drugs (2.5 hours)
  6. Team building (2.5 hours)

The course will be delivered over two days as an interactive workshop to encourage engagement, conversation and reflection.

Family Group Conferencing PracticeThe Family Group Conferencing Practice micro-credential provides workers with the skills and knowledge to engage key people in shared approaches to children’s safety and wellbeing and facilitate family group conferencing. At the end of this micro-credential, participants will have gained knowledge of restorative practice principles (with a specialised focus on child protection sector work), and understand how to facilitate family-led decision making. They will also be eligible to be considered for a Ngartuitya Family Group Conference Coordinator role within Relationships Australia South Australia (RASA).

The Family Group Conferencing Practice micro-credential consists of two accredited Units of Competency:

  1. Assist families to self-manger contact (CHCFAM006)
  2. Work with diverse people (CHCDIV001)

The micro-credentials will be delivered and assessed over 3 days through blended learning methods, including an online self-paced component followed by face to face workshop attendance, simulated practice and assessment tasks.

There is an additional option for formal assessment of 14 hours against the national Units of Competency from the Certificate IV in Community Services, if students choose to do so.

The micro-credential is targeted at people working in or interested in working in the community services and welfare sectors.

The Game Play Tester micro-credential is one of six micro-credentials that will prepare learners to work in entry level roles in quality assurance testing for game development. Job roles such as Quality Assurance (QA) Tester and Game Tester will use these foundation and employability skills, along with technical skills and knowledge to fill gaps in the gaming industry’s workforce.

The micro-credential involves playtesting video games and providing feedback individually or as part of a group participating in the playtesting session. It provides basic technical skills and knowledge of playtesting video games, evaluating gameplay, mechanics, user interface, and overall player experience, and providing constructive feedback to improve game quality and performance.

The Game Play Tester micro-credential consists of one non-accredited industry subject:

  • Playtest a Video Game and Provide Feedback.

The micro-credential will be delivered and assessed face to face over 40 hours through an authentic work-based delivery in the workplace format.

The micro-credential is aimed at neuro-diverse young people aged 17 to 24 interested in working in the game development sector. There are no pre-entry requirements, however students may wish to begin with the Game Play Tester micro-credential and progress through the other five micro-credentials according to the capability and desire to work in the sector.

The Lead Game Play Tester micro-credential is one of six micro-credentials that will prepare learners to work in entry level roles in quality assurance testing for game development. Job roles such as Quality Assurance (QA) Tester and Game Tester will use these foundation and employability skills, along with technical skills and knowledge to fill gaps in the gaming industry’s workforce.

This micro-credential involves organising and conducting playtest sessions to gather feedback and improve game quality, usability, and player experience. The micro-credential develops identified foundation and employability skills sought by employers in the game development industry, and provides basic technical skills and knowledge of planning, recruitment, facilitation and collecting and analysing feedback from participants in playtest sessions.

The Lead Game Play Tester micro-credential consists of one non-accredited industry subject:

  • Organise and Conduct a Playtest Session for a Video Game

The micro-credential will be delivered and assessed face to face over 60 hours through an authentic work-based delivery in the workplace format.

The micro-credential is aimed at neuro-diverse young people aged 17 to 24 interested in working in the game development sector. The Game Bug Tester micro-credential is one of six micro-credentials that will prepare learners to work in entry level roles in quality assurance testing for game development. Job roles such as Quality Assurance (QA) Tester and Game Tester will use these foundation and employability skills, along with technical skills and knowledge to fill gaps in the gaming industry’s workforce.

This micro-credential involves bug testing video games and providing feedback individually or as part of a team in a structured testing process. It provides basic technical skills and knowledge of bug testing a video game following a pre-specified plan, identifying and documenting defects, and providing feedback using a range of tools to improve game quality performance.

The Game Bug Tester micro-credential consists of one non-accredited industry subject:

  • Bug Test a Video Game Following a Pre-Specified Plan and Provide Feedback Using a Range of Tools

The micro-credential will be delivered and assessed face to face over 40 hours through an authentic work-based delivery in the workplace format.

Job roles such as Quality Assurance (QA) Tester and Game Tester will use these foundation and employability skills, along with technical skills and knowledge to fill gaps in the gaming industry’s workforce.

This micro-credential involves creating test plans to guide the testing process and ensure comprehensive testing of video game features and functionality. The micro-credential provides basic technical skills and knowledge of writing a video game test plan, including understanding game requirements, defining test objectives, determining test strategies, and planning test resources and schedules

The Game Test Plan Writer micro-credential consists of one non-accredited industry subject:

Freelance Game TesterThe Freelance Game Tester micro-credential is one of six micro-credentials that will prepare learners to work in entry level roles in quality assurance testing for game development. Job roles such as Quality Assurance (QA) Tester and Game Tester will use these foundation and employability skills, along with technical skills and knowledge to fill gaps in the gaming industry’s workforce.

This micro-credential provides basic technical skills and knowledge of QA testing processes, business and marketing principles, and project management in the context of the video game industry. The micro-credential prepares the learner to perform effectively as a Freelance Game Tester at Youth Options, or in a similarly entry level role in quality assurance testing for game development.

The Freelance Game Tester micro-credential consists of one non-accredited industry subject:

  • Set Up and Operate a Freelance QA Video Game Testing Practice

The micro-credential will be delivered and assessed face to face over 60 hours through an authentic work-based delivery in the workplace format.

Live Event Volunteer

The Live Event Volunteer micro-credential aims to prepare learners for entry level roles in a range of creative industries such as a Live Events Volunteer at NSS, Stagehand or Production Assistant (in the production of live entertainment), a runner (in film production), animation or visual effects, or an assistant to a talent agent or artist manager.

The course provides basic technical skills and knowledge of production operations at a live entertainment venue. It is based upon work tasks undertaken by a Live Events Volunteer at NSS and involves working effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-energy environment, following established procedures, responding to rapid instructions, and reacting appropriately to unexpected situations.

This course is suitable for young people or any volunteers at NSS who are interested in pursuing or exploring a career in the creative industries.

The course consists of one non-accredited subject, NSS001 – Support Crew at a Live Event, covering a total of 36 hours. It can be delivered on-the-job over a duration of six weeks.

Sound Recording Volunteer

The Sound Recording Volunteer micro-credential aims to prepare learners for entry level roles in a range of creative industries such as a Sound Recording Volunteer at NSS, Sound Technician, Production Assistant (in sound engineering or music production), a runner (in film production), animation or visual effects or an assistant to a talent agent or artist manager.

The course provides basic technical skills and knowledge of production equipment and operations in a recording studio. It is based upon work tasks undertaken by a Sound Recording Volunteer at NSS and involves working effectively with an artist to build rapport, determine their needs, take direction, and offer creative solutions.

This course is suitable for young people or any volunteers at NSS who are interested in pursuing or exploring a career in the creative industries.

The course consists of one non-accredited subject, NSS002 - Use Pro Tools to Record and Mix a Basic Demo, covering a total of 60 hours. It can be delivered on-the-job over a duration of six weeks.

Artist Development Volunteer

The Artist Development Volunteer micro-credential aims to prepare learners for entry level roles in a range of creative industries such as a runner in film production, animation or visual effects, talent spotter, production assistant and other entry level roles in public relations or communications, such as assistant to a talent agent or artist manager, digital content contributor, social media content manager and junior photographer.

The course provides basic technical skills and knowledge of digital photography, graphic design, music services, and communication strategies for artists releasing new music. It is suitable to youth or any volunteers at NSS who are interested in pursuing or exploring a career in the creative industries.

The course consists of two non-accredited subjects, and is delivered on-the-job covering a total of 60 hours:

  • NSS003 – Produce Digital Images for Artist Promotion (30 hours over six weeks)
  • NSS004 - Develop an Artist (30 hours over six weeks)

Participants are required to complete NSS003 - Produce Digital Images for Artist Promotion prior to undertaking training of NSS004 – Develop an Artist.

Visioning Your Future

The Visioning Your Future micro-credential aims to assist rural, regional and remote South Australian women aged 18 and over (at all stages of their learning and career journey) to identify barriers and to develop confidence, a personal learning plan, and roadmap to workforce participation.

This course consists of one non-accredited subject: ‘Visioning Your Future’.

There is no entry requirement for this proposed micro-credential, and the course can be delivered via blended mode (a combination of face-to-face and online) or face-to-face classroom setting over five sessions with three hours per session, totalling 15 hours, over five consecutive weeks.

Support Coach Nursing Program

The Support Coach Nursing Program micro credential provides bite sized information in a flexible format to equip existing nurses to support new nurses entering aged care with practical coaching skills to successfully supervise and assist then transfer into an operational environment.


This course consists of six non-accredited subjects:

  1. Introduction to the Support Coach Role
  2. Creating interpersonal comfort and its role in the support of the new nurse in aged care
  3. Teaching strategies that can be applied in a time poor nursing environment
  4. Build reflective practice
  5. Effective aged care nursing practice
  6. Keeping strong – support and resilience for the coach!

To be suitable for the course, participant must be employed as a Registered or Enrolled Nurse for a minimum of two years post registration.

The course will be delivered using a framework of reflective practice and real-life coaching opportunities facilitated in the work environment. This course will be delivered face to face or with online synchronous group and or individual support session over a 6-month timeline with approximately 100 hours of learning in total, equivalent to 4 hours per week.

Each subject will be provided over a 4-week duration equivalent to 16 hours of study.

Transition to Professional Practice Program – Nursing Aged Care

The Transition to Professional Practice Program – Nursing Aged Care micro credential will provide bite sized information in a flexible format to equip new nurses entering aged care with practical operational skills to successfully transition with an aged care facility.


This course consists of six non-accredited subjects:

  1. Introduction to Transition to Professional Practice Program- Nursing Aged Care (TPPAC) program
  2. Identifying operational essentials
  3. Quality aged care practice - Part 1
  4. Interactions in the aged care setting
  5. Practical daily decision making
  6. Quality aged care practice – Part 2

To be suitable for the course, participant must be employed as a Registered or Enrolled Nurse with less than 12 months experience post registration or employed as new registered or enrolled nurse into aged care within the last 12 months.

The course will be delivered using a framework of reflective practice, real-life problem-solving and group learning delivered face to face or online over a 6-month timeline with approximately 100 hours of learning in total, equivalent to 4 hours per week.

Each subject will be provided over a 4-week duration equivalent to 16 hours of study.
