2011 Skills for Jobs five-year plan
The State’s Training and Skills Commission released the annual update of its Skills for Jobs five-year plan for skills and workforce development in South Australia on Wednesday, 7 December, 2011, at an industry forum in Adelaide.
The update focuses on the demand and supply of qualifications over the five-year period to 2014-15, including a detailed analysis on the skilling requirements for specialist occupations in South Australia.
The Commission’s advice in the 2011 plan focuses on the implementation of the State Government’s Skills for All reforms to revitalise the vocational education and training (VET) sector.
The State Government's Skills for All policy, announced in February 2011, will make fundamental changes to the VET system in South Australia. Skills for All is largely in line with the Commission's reform recommendations to Government, including the fundamental shift from a supply focused system to one driven by student and industry demand.
As the Skills for All policy reforms are rolled out, the Commission will watch with interest to see what impact the reforms have, in particular on:
- Raising the skill levels of South Australians
- Supporting informed student choice
- Driving improvements in the quality of the system to deliver job outcomes
- The capacity of players within the system to work effectively together
- Encouraging productivity improvements and responsiveness within firms and sectors
- Raising workforce participation and fostering a more inclusive society.
